Criteria


  • Projects must benefit women and children. Consideration will also be given to the disabled
  • 75% of the beneficiaries must be black (including Coloured, Indian, etc.)
  • The NGO/NPO must be properly constituted and registered with the NPO directorate.
  • Ideally organisations must also be registered with the SARS and be able to produce a PBO number.
  • The organisation must be able to produce independently audited financial statements.
  • Projects must be of a capacity building nature
  • A system of evaluation must be incorporated
  • A clear budget must be available (a maximum of 5% of funding may be used for administrative purposes)
  • Project funding is provided for 1–3 years depending on the nature of the project

What don’t we fund?

  • Individuals who are looking for donations of sponsorship
  • Political organisations/individuals
  • Community Based Organisations - directly
  • Religious organisations except those with a social service programme that operates separately from the Religious organisation. The programme must have its own NPO/NGO number, and must have its own mission statement.
  • Commercial ventures like sponsorships, e.g. sporting tours or events, conferences, exhibitions or cultural events
  • Corporate tables at special events
  • Paid advertisements in social investment publications, charity brochures, event programmes or general fundraising printed material for events such as fundraising dinners or golf days
  • Profit making organisations, such as closed corporations or companies
  • Endowment funds
  • Requests for bursaries
  • Projects that fall outside the focus areas
  • The Foschini Group (TFG) CSI programme does not provide gift vouchers or supply free product as giveaways, prizes or gift items.

Deadline for funding applications

Applications are currently accepted from 1 January to 30 March every year.

Charity Clothing

As of 1 April 2009, TFG no longer donates its charity clothing to organisations on a monthly basis.

The charity clothing will instead be utilised as part of a new Skills Development project that TFG, CSI department has developed with an organisation called Learn to Earn. For more details on what, how and when, click here
